My answer to ‘Are Chinese people racist against black people’ was deleted,so I have decided to answer this one too.I have been living in China for almost 5 years .Too many racist incidents have happened to me,but I will only tell you a few to keep my answer short.
INCIDENT 1
It was during our university’s cultural festival ,my Chinese friends and I were taking selfies.
Chinese friend:Hey bro,why don’t you go ask your white friends to take pictures with us?
Me:Why would I? Have you ever seen them asking strangers to take pictures with them?
Chinese friend:They don’t have to,they are superior,we Chinese come second.
INCIDENT 2
I was reading a book in our leisure room while waiting for my appointment with one of the teachers, they were 3 Chinese students and 1 female teacher resting in the same room as me.
Chinese student:(Whispers)Teacher, this foreign student’s Chinese is good,he can be the host for next week’s event.(He was referring to me).
Teacher:(Whispers back in student’s ear) He’s black,too ugly.Let’s find someone who’s white.
INCIDENT 3
Her:(Sends a message in a Wechat group) There is a part time job this weekend,we need foreigners who can sing and play a guitar or other musical instruments.Add me if interested.
Me:(After adding her)Hey,am interested in doing the job you posted in the group.
Her:Sorry,we don't want black people.
I told one of my closest and sincere Chinese friend about these incidents and many more,he said, ‘‘Bro,I will not lie to you,Chinese people are racist, they think dark skinned people are ugly, poor and uneducated. Personally,I think you are pretty handsome and intelligent, but I also think you will miss out on a lot of opportunities because you are dark skinned and come from a poor country.
EDIT:
I think being another Asian is worse .I once recommended an Asian friend for a teaching job,the guy who was recruiting said no,I asked him why,he said because he looks Asian.

I am a brown man, originally from india. I have been working in Suzhou for more than two years. I will share some of my experiences.
Well, this topic is very subjective, and it could be easier for some people to get offended by the answer. So I will try to be politically correct.
Again, China is big, the population is big, there are all types of people over here.
You can't really generalize everything to everyone.
That said, I have traveled quite extensively in China (51 cities), and interacted with different types of people. So I have some clues.
I have been quite often asked if I was from Africa. More often, I have been asked if I was from Pakistan.
I feel surprised that instead of asking me a Yes/No question (“Are you from Pakistan?”), why don't they ask me: “Where are you from?”, and allow me to provide a bit more detailed answer?
Sometime, just to see their facial expressions, I'd answer them (in Chinese) with a smile, “I am from China”, then they'd quickly say “Nooooo”. This has been quite funny experience. :)
It seems that Chinese people do pay attention to the skin color. However, the screening often happens under the radar. They won't tell you directly what's going on in their minds.
In fact, most of the time they are just being curious about your nationality. Because, there are many nationality based stereotypes. For example,
1.Most of the Whites are from the developed countrie
2.Most of the Blacks are from Africa
3.Too much HIV in Africa
4.Every foreigner speaks English
5.If your facial features are South Asian, you may be initially thought to be from india.
6.The British like to talk about the weather.
Once they know your nationality, it's easier for them to interact with you. For example, once, when I mentioned to a girl that I was from india, she told me: “When we think about India, we think about dance and curry”. I couldn't stop my laughter.
However, China is by and large a safe country to live in. You can be from anywhere and of any skin color, you can live in China peacefully, no one would bother you.
Especially, if you compare with the racial gun violences in the USA, there is nothing like gun violence in China.
The only issue is, if you want to find a Chinese girlfriend, then you may have to convince her that she will have a good future with you. This is because marriage in China is a serious issue. Women generally look for a long term relationship. Who wanna get married to a poor man?
That means, if you are a poor student, from a poor country, studying in China, your chances of finding a Chinese girlfriend are quite low.
However, if you are working in China, have a full time (preferably well-paid) job, and show some patience, it's very much possible to find a Chinese girlfriend.

So as a Black African that has lived in East Asia, I’m going anonymous. East Asia as a whole is pretty racist. I experienced the worst racism toward me ever in my life thus far while I was in Korea and Mainland China. Chinese, especially those that live in big cities in Mainland China, like Shanghai and Beijing, were damn racist. Their equal on this meter is Koreans, but there’s a difference. Chinese usually don’t get aggressive toward you, however they won’t hesitate to show you their contempt for you. They don’t care about your feelings because they view you as a lesser man. You have no feelings. In Korea, people could get violent toward you. When I was at a bar in downtown Seoul, various Koreans actually tried to get me into trouble by provoking me into having a fight with them for their racist remarks. I DID NOT have a fight with them because I KNEW EXACTLY their agenda. In Korea, I also experienced name-calling that was so racist. They actually asked me why my skin was so dark. I mean WTF! I’m a Black person, so WHY IS MY SKIN DARK? LOL What kind of question was this? LOL Racism in Korea is just as terrible as in Mainland China. I haven’t been to Chinese provinces that aren’t in the Mainland (Hainan&Taiwan) so can’t speak for them. Compared with Mainland China and Korea, Japan was much better. I didn’t expect to experience no racism there but at least they hid it well. Their discrimination against you was in a much more subtle way and you have to stay long enough in their society to feel it.
